The Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Automobile Transport was established in 2016 (Opens external link in new window VlGU Order No. 306/3 dated 04.04.2016).

Within the framework of the implemented innovative educational program, scientific and educational centers have been established and are functioning:

  • Automation of design and technological preparation of production of machine-building products
  • New engineering technologies
  • Intelligent mechatronic systems and components for controlling mobile objects
  • 2D and 3D nanostructured coatings

Classes at the Institute are highly qualified teachers. Among them there are 18 doctors and 80 candidates of technical sciences, 6 honored scientists of the Russian Federation, 20 members of various academies, 4 honored machine builders of the Russian Federation, 12 honorary workers of higher education.

The Institute trains specialists for the country's road transport and machine-building complexes: the State Road Safety Inspectorate (GIBDD), car dealerships, the State Road Supervision Authority, other organizations in the city of Vladimir, the region, and the regions of Russia. Among the graduates of the Institute there are 12 doctors and more than 140 candidates of technical sciences.

The Institute has a well-equipped material and technical base:

  • 13 computer classes
  • 14 research laboratories
  • 7 training cars for the preparation of students for obtaining licenses for the right to drive vehicles

There are permanent regional training courses for specialists in the field of road safety in five programs: 

  • Qualification preparation for organization of road transport and traffic safety
  • Training of managers and experts of motor transport on traffic safety
  • Increase of professional skill of experts on the organization of transportations by motor transport within the limits of the Russian Federation
  • Training of drivers of vehicles carrying dangerous goods
  • Qualification preparation for the organization of transportation by road within the Russian Federation

All the departments of the Institute have postgraduate studies and a well-developed research base. Scientific research is conducted in the following main areas: 

  • Maintenance of working capacity of motor vehicles in operation
  • Development of scientific bases for improving energy and environmental indicators of power units of transport and small-scale mechanization means
  • Gas dynamics and ecology of non-standard processes in reciprocating engines
  • Metrological support and quality management of technical systems in the production and operation process
  • Development of control systems for mechatronic and robotic systems and their components
  • Management of production processes in road transport
  • Intelligent mechatronic modular systems based on highly functional executive planetary mechanisms
  • Phase and structural transformations in metals and alloys. Special methods of casting
  • Scientific foundations for the creation of new technological processes and materials for functional and structural purposes

The Institute actively develops international cooperation with foreign universities of the USA, China, Bulgaria and other countries. Within the framework of this cooperation, student and teacher delegations are exchanged, joint scientific and technical conferences are being held, various projects are being implemented.
